Yannick Wey

Yannick Wey is a musicologist who graduated from the Zurich University of the Arts (BA/MA) and the University of Innsbruck (PhD). He served as a research associate and lecturer at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts from 2015 to 2025. In 2023, he joined the Bern Academy of Arts as a post-doctoral researcher and became responsible for the Research Field Music and Cultural Heritage | HKB in 2025.
Yannick currently serves on the boards of the ICTMD Study Group on Multipart Music (chair), the Haus der Volksmusik, the Commissione Fondo Roberto Leydi, and the Swiss Society for Ethnomusicology. He is an active performer on the trumpet and traditional wind instruments of the Swiss Alpine region, including the alphorn and büchel, and teaches at the Leavenworth Alphorn Festival.
His current and recent research focuses on the role of wind bands in the Lake Constance region during the 19th century, traditional music of the Alpine region, archiving intangible cultural heritage, and safeguarding traditional craftsmanship such as charcoal burning and smithery.
Past experiences include serving as a visiting researcher at the Laboratório de Etnomusicologia at UFPA Belém, Brazil (2024), conducting archaeological fieldwork in Vindonissa (2015), and delivering guest lectures at Cornell University (2019) and the University of Washington (2024).
