Carolina Estrada Bascuñana

Dr Carolina Estrada Bascuñana is a musicologist and pianist from Barcelona. She specialises in piano performance of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, for which she has been awarded numerous prizes such as the George Henderson Award 2016, the SGAE Composer’s Prize 2016, the European Gold Cross 2014, the Kathleen & Allison Short Faculty Merit Award 2013, the Australasian DRS Foundation Award 2012, the Arjau Foundation’s first prize 2007, the Barcelona University Agusti Pere i Pons Award 2002 and 2003, etc. She pursued a doctoral degree in music performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Australia. She received a Master’s degree from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the Universität der Künste Berlin and a Bachelor degree from the Liceu Conservatorium of Music in Barcelona and the Amsterdam University of the Arts. She is an international pianist, convenor and co-founder of international piano festivals in Spain and Australia. She spent eight years as teacher in piano performance at the Reus Conservatorium of Music, the Sultan Qaboos University and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She has been a member of the panel for piano examinations at the University of New England and also she has been invited to chair sessions in conferences and lecture at the Royal Academy of Music, London, the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, Vilnius, the Japanese Society of Spanish Music and the Universities of New York, Melbourne, Sydney, Bern, Madrid, Strasbourg and Tokyo University of the Arts. She is currently a postdoctoral research fellow of the Swiss National Science Foundation leading the SNSF research project “Nightingale” at the Institute Interpretation of the Hochschule der Künste Bern HKB since January 2020.
